Miscellaneous Wandering

The light here is different – just different.  Perhaps it is because we are so far north, perhaps it is the way it has to negotiate around the mountains and glens to be noticed. I have been fascinated with the light in the Highlands and Islands since my first trip here, and it never gets old.  Yesterday was an incredible sunny day and the whole landscape took on a different look. But it is the clouds over the mountains and water, and how the light plays on them, that really create great photos of the region.

Set one foot on West Highland soil and the land draws you in and will not let go. Ferry across the waters and wander the islands and you feel as if time has stopped and you are in another world. Such is the magnetism of these wild and beautiful lands.  Around every curve in the road is another jaw dropping scene and it’s no wonder that the Lords of the Isles fought to keep their territory intact.  I have spent the past two days just wandering and taking in all of the natural beauty – and studying the light!  I imagine it is the 1300’s and around every tree trunk or over every hill I fully expect to see the people who lived in the kingdom emerge as if from a dream – you can close your eyes and picture them here centuries ago.
