We left in 2 vehicles this morning heading to Trinidad, about a 4+ hour drive from Havana through Matanzas and Cienfuegos. We carried a generator and extra gas with us as there have been blackouts in the country and a scarcity of gas. We traveled the main highway in the country and stopped for gas which was a blessing since many stations were without supplies. Miles and miles of sugar cane farms rolled passed us as we drove through the area around Matanzas.

We arrived in Trinidad around 2 PM and immediately sat down to a magnificent lunch. One thing I can say for Cuba is that the food is extraordinary. I can only wonder how the restaurants are able to get the food necessary to fill their menus since many people are struggling to get food even with the ration system.

Our accommodations in Trinidad were in private casa particulars with the group split up between three houses.

In late afternoon we went out to photograph in the city of cobblestone streets and brightly colored houses. Trinidad was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988. It was the third villa founded by the Spanish crown in Cuba by Diego Velazquez in 1514. A walk through the streets lets you feel the authentic Cuban spirit with less crowded streets and colonial architecture. The main square was a great place to photograph the life of the city with horse drawn carriages and street musicians all adding to its charm.
