You approach Kilchoman Distillery down a long gravel road through fields of barley set below dramatic green hills. Founded in 2005, Kilchoman was the first new distillery to be built on Islay in over 124 years. Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder, set out to resurrect the grass roots tradition of farm distilling. Their 100% Islay range represents the revival of those traditions, standing alone as Islay’s only Single Farm Single Malt Scotch Whisky. I was fortunate that I had made contact with Anthony earlier in the year and met up with him at the distillery in the afternoon after enjoying a great lunch in the distillery cafe. He graciously gave me a private tour of the distillery and shared stories about his journey to build Kilchoman into the international brand it is today. The visitor center is welcoming and beautifully designed and includes electric charging stations in the car park. Naturally, I had to buy a bottle of their limited edition and 2 tasting glasses imprinted with their logo!
