Today was another quiet day at the docks, no boats coming in and little activity on the boats in port. It was hot and one of the crew decided to take a dive off of the bow of the Ms Manya – great fun! As you can see from the photo it was a pretty high jump! Also had a chance to sit down with Pete Dolan, captain of the Ms Manya and talk to him about his work and get to know him a little better. We sat in the wheelhouse to talk which gave me the captain’s view! Ms Manya is a 65’ steel scalloper built in 2004 in Bayou La Batre, Alabama. This boat features an all aluminum wheelhouse to conserve weight. The key to the project, as far as I am concerned, is making it personal and “human” so the more I can chat with the captains and crewmen the richer the story will be.
