After a snowy night and morning I ventured down to Viking Village in Barnegat Light to hang around the commercial fishing docks and continue adding to the portfolio I have been creating for that location. A scallop boat had come in that morning and the crew was working on the scallop nets so they would be ready for the next trip. The boat, Ms Manya, a 65’ steel scalloper built in2004 in Alabama, had been out overnight – she is a dayboat scalloper and has a quota of 600 lbs. Meanwhile in the intake area Fred and Paul were packing the scallops for transport to market. It was a good day! I met a couple of new people I had not come into contact with before – most are very receptive to my project so I expect more and more connections will be made over the course of the coming year. Learning more and more every day about this industry and the people who make it thrive.
